FIGHT FOR LIFE (Shanti Devi)

World has always been harder for a woman, and it gets more painful when her own sons adds more folds to her pain after her husband passes away.

Someone has said that two parent can take care of 5 children, but those 5 sons can’t take responsibility of their parents when they get old.

An old lady of age around 60 sits in the starting of Azmal Khan road, Karol Bagh. Usually I have seen her in the morning while going to my office. Once I went her to know her life. She told her name is Shanti Devi, her husband died many years back. His two sons also died in some accident, she has one son right now of age around 25. He is unmarried and doesn’t work as such. She resides somewhere in Mangol puri. She told that one auto rickshaw driver drops her here, where she begs. And takes her back in the evening. She told that she can’t prepare food and so purchase ready food from some dhabba but if I provide her some raw stuff she will.

I noticed that she was having some white strip on her leg, on asking she showed a large wound. She told, her treatment is going on from Hindu Rao hospital, and that is free of cost. But some prescribed healing tablet she has to purchase. I took empty foil of the tablet, and assured her that I would give her the medicine as required. She told she has to take 2 medicines daily, one in the morning and one in the evening.

As it was cold, I got her two sweaters and one warm sox.

FIGHT FOR LIFE (Leela Devi)

How hard a life can be..

Think of spending your life alone.. earn alone.. eat alone.. even when you have a family..

A family in which you have 2 sons and 2 daughters.. Cant even think of agony one can have..

From last more than 2 years I was watching a very old lady. Who used to sit road side, outside a government school. She sells 1-5 rupees local chips to school's students. One day I went to her and purchased her all stuff, in hope to reduce her burden of a day or two at least. I could feel happiness on her face. In that small meet she told, that she lost her husband and 2 sons long time back, and now she has to earn her food herself, and no one is there to help her.

Few days back on 27.01.15, with a thought of helping her, I met her. First she refused to sit in the car but than she agreed to be in. She told me her story. I could see that she is having severe cataract in one of her eye. I offered her that if she want I can arrange her eye operation, but she refused as she does not have anyone to take care of her after operation.

Her name is Leela Devi, she told me her husband's name but I dont want to mention that here. I dont want to mention a man's name who never bothered about his family and wife.

She told me that she has 4 son and 2 daughters. Two of them died long time back, as they used to drink from the age of 10. They got that habit of drinking from their father. I asked her if she never tried to stop them, she said, that she did. But they used to beat her if she ever insisted to quit drinking.

Now her other sons does not live with her, and she resides alone. Her daughters also get married and cant have their mother with them. Her daughters used to come to meet her once in a month or 2, and sometime do give her 50-100 rs. which is not that enough for her living. None of her son keeps her with them, or never give her food or money for living.

So she has to earn herself in the age of 75-80. (She was not very sure of her age. )

Her landlord does not take rent from her. She has to spend around 40 rs daily to reach the school from her home on rickshaw. As she cant walk that far, with the stuff she used to sell.

She is able to earn 25-30 rs a day. which goes to be nil, during weekends and school holidays.

I gave her some daily eatables and 350 rs cash. (I have not included this cash in SURseva's account.

1 litre oil                                   86
250 gm tea                                50
1 kg sugar                                 30
1 kg masur dall                         86
250 gm red chilli powder         45
250 gm turmeric powder          45
1 kg salt                                    15
250 gm Jeera                            60
1 kg arhar daal                          86
1/2 kg mung daal                      53
1 kg bura                                   55
250 gm dhaniya powder           55
1 kg rice                                    30
5 kg aata                                  100

Total                                       796/-

I shall try to help her in living, at least if I can ease her some pain.

May god bless her, and give me the strength to see such life's truths.

04.02.15********************

Visit To a Blind Hostel

28.02.16 ********************

Yesterday I visited one blind school hostel in Shiv Vihar colony, Karala with a friend. I saw the whole building where I met around 10 blinds. Some were studying in 9th some in 12th standard, some were doing graduation and some were in candle / duster manufacturing. Some of them were good in musical instruments and singing too. They used to chant Hanuman chalisa and Sundar kand path.

My friend offered them to perform in his home on the occasion of his kid’s birthday, they asked some time to think.

In the end we all enjoyed cold drink for refreshment. :)

28.12.14 ********************

On Sunday 28th Dec, 14, I visited one blind hostel. That was not a big and well-funded hostel. In a single room around 22 blinds were staying. Some were qualified and searching for job and some were studying. And some are not well educated and are living their lives on donation only. That place was on rent, and I was told that monthly expense of hostel is around 30,000 Rs. Blinds staying there are not asked for rent, they can stay there, go out for collecting donations to fulfill their daily needs.

One of them told me that he is trained enough to work on some machines and is ready to work also, but no one gives them job, as they are afraid of having police case if any blind gets physically harmed while working on such machines. I tried to make them understand the employer’s limitations but words are not enough to satisfy any needy person.

They told although they are getting facilities from government, but they are very limited. Like for travelling they do get free DTC pass, several government jobs are also available. Although these jobs are very few.

They asked me if I can arrange a dessert cooler for them for summers, and I have promised the same on behalf of SURSEVA.

I am thinking to do something which can give them work and they don’t have to live on donation. Kindly suggest, if someone has some information regarding the same.

As desired by them, I prepared 24 packets for each person. Each packet was containing 1 bathing soap, 1 cloth washing bar (tide),  1 Big toothpaste, 1 mungfali gajjak packet, 1 five star and 1 apple, and 15 kg of raw rice. 7 children were also there, for them I purchased one chocolate and one chips each.

Total expense:

15 kg rice @ 55/kg =                        825
24 Soap @ 15/pc =                           360
24 Tide @ 16/pc =                            384
24 Colgate @ 35/pc =                       840
24 five star @ 9.58/pc =                   230
24 gajjak @ 12/pc =                         288
Apple 4.5 kg (24 pcs) @ 70/kg =     315
7 Chips @ 5/pc =                              35
7 chocolate @ 5/pc =                        35

Total expense:                                   3312/-

FOOD FOR STREET DOGS

Last time I purchased dog biscuits for street dogs, but doctor consulted me to give dog food instead of giving them biscuits. As dog biscuit is a snack for them, and daily consumption may cause appetite disorder.

So this time I have purchased dog food for street dogs.

A LITTLE SEVA TO MAN’S BEST FRIEND AND CUTE KITTIES

Dogs are called as man’s best friend, it’s said so cause of their unconditional love and loyalty what they bestow on their caretakers. I don’t think anyone can explain the beauty of relationship which one can enjoy with his/her pet. But if we talk about street dogs, first thought or feel anyone would have is fear, a dog which is dirty and which may bite us.

But before let this thought come in your mind, just give a thought, what is humanity. Its not only loving pet who is in your home but loving every creature who is weaker then you, who need your love and help. Their birth on road, fight for food, torture of mischievous boys and absence of guidance made them like this. I am not asking to have them in your homes rather just to have a little heart for them too. Spare a roti or some milk to them, I assure that after a day only he would start showing his regard to you. I used to give food to one street dog near my home, he is so smart that he recognizes my car as I enter my home’s lane. And run behind car even when badly injured. (once he got wound in his toe, even then he didn’t Stop running behind my car for kilo meters)
SUR seva made a small contribution in a form of donation, which is used for feeding street dogs and cats. There is one organization Friendicoes, defence colony, who do treatment and give shelter to animals which are being discarded by human society. Animals who got injured in accidents are taken care of there.

I visited Friendicoes on Saturday, unexpectedly I found hundreds of dogs and cats there. They do have cows, oxen, donkeys also, which are kept in their bigger farm in Gurgaon. Anyone can go there, can become the volunteer, can make donations, can feed them themselves, and can also adopt any animal and they don’t charge for that. They let you have an unconditional friend without any cost.

There I saw number of dogs and cats having severe wounds, which were knowingly or unknowingly caused by humans. One of the dog was totally blind, one has lost his one eye and was still recovering from his deep pain. That was a strange feeling I had there, I was feeling angry, pity, pain, feeling like to cuddle them, to help them, and let them have a painless life. I gave them food myself and felt a little satisfied.

I thank members of SUR seva for making donations, which let these beautiful animals to have food, at least a meal. I pray that SUR seva is able to help these sweet innocent animals more, and let them have at least food, if not a loving home.

Details of stuff SUR seva donated to friendicoes are:

Raw Rice (12 kg)               310/-
Raw Daliya (10.5kg)         220/-
Cat food (3 kg)                  700/-
Dog Biscuit (4 kg)              360/-
Dog Chews (3)                   50/-
Total                                      1,640/-

I purchased one kg of biscuits extra which I have put in my car, to feed dogs near my office.

Dog Biscuits (1kg)             90/-

Total expense                   1,730/-
